- Wondering what it would take to make a simple iPhone client to catch up to my reading list with ReadItLater integration ([personal profile] exor674 has the Android client well in hand so I'm not going there!)

It took me a week and a half to download 4.33 GB... and then the download failed and now it says it'll take me another 15 days to start from scratch D:

+ update page, chugga chugga chugga

+ a surprise, but I don't want to say anything about it until it's ready (more chugga chugga chugga)

+ getting the dog groomed, so he no longer looks like a rat with a mop on its head :-)

- dog's vet called reminding us that their vaccinations need to be renewed, but I don't feel comfortable with this guy because he doesn't seem to know how to handle the dogs properly...

+ dropped by Zentea again, tried out their almond milk tea (mmm). The naicha is still better, but this is good 'nuff

+ lots of mangoes and singkamas. SUMMER IS HERE

- perhaps too many mangoes; mom bought two kaing (big baskets) worth, at 60-80 pieces in each... :D

+ but this means that we can have mango float / refrigerator cake (layers of mango slices + cream + graham crackers, leave in the refrigerator for a couple hours so that the cream soaks into the graham, serve cold)

+ getting to sit down and talk with someone local who loves knitting, who is close to my age!

- only because she's moving to another country for a couple years and needs to sell off her current yarn stash

+ (from the perspective of my stash) buying said yarn stash off her hands
- (from the perspective of my wallet) buying said yarn stash off her hands

+ she's lending me all her knitting books while she's away! (needs someone to keep them who'll take care of them since they're too heavy for her to lug everything across an ocean)

+ she also recced the Fully Booked in Fort which has a full shelf worth of knitting / crochet / sewing books *_*

- having to leave behind some of said books because of budget

- having to drive at night on EDSA

+ overcoming my fear of driving at night

+ overcoming my fear of driving on EDSA (main thoroughfare)

+ remembering to gas up the car yesterday so I don't have to deal with it today

+ making plans to meet up with friends for merienda or lunch (some time in the future)

+ family stuff

- other family stuff

I believe that all leaves me ahead by a couple thousand ;-)

Drove my brother and sister home in my sister's car after Noche Buena and presents opening. Usually it's my sister who drives, or my brother who drives, but both of them were really sleepy.

Despite the fact that they made me drive because they were too sleepy to drive, both of them were too tense the entire time to fall asleep, ahhahaah. I think my sister regrets putting me behind the wheel :x

Anyway, presents successfully exchanged, cookies happily shared, people safely home. S'all good ♥

Drove home from my grandpa's condo tonight :D Normally it's my brother who drives, but he's having some temporary issues that make night driving uncomfortable, so I volunteered to do it instead.

I hate driving with a passion! I hate night driving with even more passion! I'm terrified that I'll hit someone/something, so I tend to overcompensate and drive too slowly or slow down too much to be sure I have enough space. Having my brother in the passenger's seat really helped me :)

He was very patient in reassuring me that yes there was enough space, no I wouldn't hit that thing on my right, yes the lanes are wide enough and etc. I have a slight headache from the way my shoulders tense when I drive, but I picked up a lot tonight.

I may even find driving less stressful next time, who knows? (I certainly hope so *g*)

Okay, so.

Remember in that one news post, where I admitted my craving for pad thai? On Saturday, I finally satisfied that craving at 8 Spices over in T. Morato -- and it was good. It was also expensive: quite easily the most I've ever spent on a single meal. To be fair, that was because the portions were for two to three people (I ate half of each serving, and packed up the rest to take home). The pad thai was not *quite* what I was looking for, but close enough. Close enough :)

Sunday, I hung out with family, and did the usual Sunday thing, which involves eating a huge lunch, gorging on ice cream for merienda, and grabbing some yummy dinner together. Love kare-kare (usually beef tail and tripe in peanut butter sauce with vegetables). Seriously love. Home-cooked is better than any store-bought I've ever had, but that dinner (from Bangus in MoA) was decent, considering it's from a restaurant.

Monday, I caught up with some of my friends from high school. We ended up at Tokyo Cafe, where we hung out and ate pasta and french toast. Then we ended up in Gloria jeans for some coffee/cake when the fourth member of our group arrived late.

Ended up doing some shopping, where I'm proud to say that I managed to avoid spending anything. Mostly we just talked; I miss them! It's been a while since we've had a chance to get together. :)

I do not otherwise miss my high school days, or my my old high school classmates, but these three girlfriends? I miss, and am glad whenever we can get together. I gave them each a beret I knitted for them, and I'm pleased that I successfully gauged which beret would go to whom (I let them choose because I wasn't quite sure enough of myself!).

Considered voting for the barangay elections but I know very little about the candidates, other than what is in their pamphlets which, ugh, whatever. I feel like I should become a better citizen at some point. Hmm.

Got completely lost on the drive home. I'm very good at getting lost -- last week, the five minute drive from the mall to my grandpa's place ended up taking me an hour and a half, because I ended up on an expressway to Cavite, and I had to call up my dad to guide me home.

cut for long etc about driving and getting lost )

In news that are less stressful, today got to use our oven for the very first time! We finished renovating the kitchen a couple of months ago, but because of some *mumble* we weren't allowed to use the stove/oven until the kitchen had been suitably blessed, and we had to wait for a good day (fortuitous day? lucky day?) for the blessing to be done. So I've been waiting for a long time now to be able to use the new kitchen, and that day came last week.

cut for long etc about baking )

Ummmm. So anyway, I think I like baking even with the mistakes. Maybe especially with the mistakes? ;-)

Started driving lessons today, took two hours (of ten).

It's surprisingly not as scary as I thought it would be. Having three pedals (clutch, brake, gas) was confusing, as was trying to remember when to switch to first gear, and when to simply stop while in second, but the car handled smoothly (except when I mishandled it), and I didn't hit anything.

The hardest part for me to get used to is that I need to ease off on the clutch to make the car go. It seems counter-intuitive to raise your foot to go. Most computer games just have you step on the gas...

The beginning was definitely the scariest, as well as driving on any part of the road where there are people. Or cars. Or animals. Or random stationary items.

Can turn on the ignition, start, stop, slow down, speed up, change gears (from 1 to 2 and back again), reverse, and park. I'm also slowly learning how to deal with the machine dying on me because I didn't use the clutch properly.

Hit a top speed of 30km/h! I am a daredevil >:-)

One thing I need to do now is to be more aware of the road around me. I made do because the instructor guided me through every action, but I'll need to learn to think about these things on my own. I also need a better grasp of how things line up/how far items are when viewed from the driver's seat. I hope that comes with experience.
