Strip of something

I'm basically knitting a huge drawstring pouch/bag right now (I hope to be able to fit my boxing gloves in it), and I'm cautiously cheerful so far. I'm at 320 stitches as given by the pattern, and I am at the point where I'm supposed to knit straight for 4". I'm thinking about playing with it and putting in eyelets and stuff (learned the basics of increasing/decreasing over the weekend! \o/ want to practice) but I can't find anything suitable (with the right number of stitches in the pattern) which I can adapt to knitting in the round *rueful*
There is also the issue of needing to adjust any pattern I find so it works in the round, rather than straight knitting. Feather and fan looked okay-ish to try, but I'm having difficulty with the second round; things not lining up not sure if it's because I made a mistake, or it's because I'd tried to adapt it to the round, hehehe.
So maybe I'll just stud the strip with eyelets, in a plain repetition, if I can't figure anything else out. I'll probably play with it a bit more first, though. (I have a hank of yarn which I'm using to try to mock stuff on. Casting on 60 stitches, seeing if it's possible to knit a pattern in the round, tearing everything down... So far nothing has worked! But it is kinda fun to try. But I want to finish my pouch. I am torn.)

Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: (k2tog) * 3; (yo, k1) * 6; (k2tog) * 3
Row 4: Purl
If it's not lining up, it means that you either a). have the wrong number of stitches or b). are doing the wrong thing on row 3. Probably a).

Multiple of 20 stitches
Row 1: Knit
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: k1; (k2tog) * 3; (yo, k1) * 6; (k2tog) * 3; k1
Row 4: Purl
I also really recommend stitch markers.

Date: 2009-11-05 07:16 am (UTC)Row 3: kx; ** (k2tog) * 3; ( yo, k1 ) * 6; (k2tog ) * 3; repeat from ** until desired length - margin; kx
I will try that later. (Or tomorrow if I am coding later *G*). Crossing my fingers; thank you \o/

Date: 2009-11-05 05:50 pm (UTC)I have been looking at some other patterns, and I think now that I know how to do the yarnover properly, some of them actually make sense now *g*
I'll put those off until my next project though. (I am very excited, hah! And I can hardly wait to finish this current one so I can try something new.)

Date: 2009-11-05 06:02 pm (UTC)I justified it to myself with the thought that they were bamboo! And those are very rare here! And I didn't have any in those sizes yet! And ummmm. Yeah, I think it's an addiction.
Knitting feels so much like coding, it is not even funny. (Except for how it is, a little bit *grin*)

Date: 2009-11-04 09:35 pm (UTC)For eyelets I'd do yarn overs and knit 2 togethers rather than increases and decreases... I googled for that and found this drawstring bag pattern which might be of use to give you some pointers - if you're having more fun just figuring things out for yourself, just don't clicky the links :)
