PICSPAM: The stash and needle edition

afunaSo it turns out that when I'm nervous, I end up organizing stuff. When I'm really nervous, and happen to have supplies on hand, I end up doing something like this:
The first picture is all my unused small needles, the second one is all my larger needles. The empty hooks are for needles that I'm currently using.
The hooks themselves are decorative clips I picked up at the hardware store, originally for hanging up Christmas lights but we didn't need them last year, so this seemed a better use! They were only 150 pesos for twenty pieces (less than 4 USD), which was enough to hold all needle sizes from 2.0mm to 9.0mm, with a couple hooks extra.
Each hook can hold up to four of the smaller circs, and up to three of the larger sizes.
The edges are a bit scary because it looks they should, by all rights, stick out past the sides when the closet is closed, but they don't! *bounce* I took care to make sure of that *g*
I also took care not to have too much vertical overlap, but afterwards realized that the overlap would have been useful: the cords on the lower needles, when overlapped with the needles above them, help hold the needles in place to reduce clinking.
Since I posted pics of my needles, I guess I should post some of my stash too! Or rather my stash containers :D I found these really nifty boxes: six partitions (removable partitions), each partition just about wide enough for two balls of yarn, about high enough for two layers of yarn, and coincidentally at the perfect size to be able to squeeze four such boxes under my bed (eight if I stack them two high, but I haven't needed to go past four yet...)
The hardware store is surprisingly good for finding useful stuff that can be adapted to crafts. So are bookstores/office supply stores.
Anyway, box/stash pics:

This was when I realized my stash needed more space to breathe, so I separated it across several boxes:
I've bought a bit more since then, and I'm trying frantically to knit fast enough to use them up.
This is the shot of the boxes squeezed under my bed :-D So happy at just how perfectly they fit:

It's not even a fifth of what I have now :-D
ETA: I just stumbled across the abuntant yarn blog via one of the Ravelry forums. Lots of good techniques I'm bookmarking for later.

Date: 2011-05-01 03:58 pm (UTC)I just queue-busted (?) -- cleaned out about a hundred off my Ravelry queue, things I know I'm no longer interested in, either because I've also got something similar in queue, or because I've already done something similar, or whatever. I'm down to 900 projects, woohoo! (That should only take me, what, fifty years to knit?)
And oh man. Oh man. The leftmost yarns are these tiny tiny balls of acrylic that were the first yarn I ever saw. Each is only 35m long and I thought that was how all yarn was, and I DESPAIRED. So short, so splitty, no muted colors ;_; I had no idea how people ever knit what they did!
It turns out that yarn is mostly for crafts, not for making fabric from scratch. Once I stumbled across the LYS here that sells full balls of yarn, I fell hard :D

Date: 2011-05-01 09:39 pm (UTC)I have used my yarn as decorative elements for years now. It's part of my room, I may as well let it provide some much-needed color. My ideal yarn storage method would be a set of barrister bookcases so I could see my stash but still protect it behind the glass.

i kinda stopped/rested from knitting but sometimes i just go through my yarn box and think if i can do anything with my stash.. i'm trying to ask my mom to get me some needles in the states (mas mura yata?) so i hope i can use up the yarn i have left :)
