So I'll be in Australia for the first two weeks of May. I'll be with family from April 30 to May 6, they'll be heading home first, leaving me in Melbourne.

I'll be staying with [personal profile] rb for about a week following that :D Anyone in the Melbourne area want to meet up? I'll be working during that week, but I'll have the weekend/evenings/etc -- I'll have just come off a week being a tourist with my family, so I'll be all touristed out and don't need to be introduced to any of the local tourist spots. I'm hoping for something kinda low-key, just hanging out or going out or whatever.

And do I know anyone in Sydney? *g* I can't remember! Though I can't guarantee I'll be able to meet up with anyone in Sydney, since my family will expect me to hang out with them.

(Man, we need to figure out the itinerary before we go, don't we? I have no idea what we're going to do; I suspect it's four days Sydney, three days Melbourne, and my sister wants to do something from http://www.australia.com/

This is going to be our least planned holiday ever. It's either going to be awesome, or awful *G*)

Since I don't know of any man-eating marsupials, she's probably only in danger from my cat who tends to lick people to death!!

:)

We plan to have LOTS OF FUN YAY! \o/

What? Drop bears are marsupials! Just don't take [personal profile] afuna out into the forest without carrying an umbrella. Also the male platypus has poisonous hind spurs, but fortunately they're a bit shy, so getting stung by a platypus is pretty unlikely.

Um. Anyway, colour me potentially interested in saying hello, although given my massively busy schedule, making any kind of meetup is more a matter of luck of availability than pre-planning. :-)

Don't WWI spiky helmets work against dropbears too? (Also, last I looked, platypussies weren't marsupialses.)

Hrm, yes, platypuses are monotremes, not marsupials, good point. And yes, a spiky helmet helps, but you may need spiky shoulder armour too.

In Melbourne, quite near [profile] rickybuchanan. So a drop by, or possibly a breakfast at one of several nearby excellent coffee places is entirely possible. :-)

How large are dingos? I think of them as kinda coyote-sized, but maybe I'm wrong? (Not that coyotes would eat people, but...)

I'm in St Kilda - inner southern suburbs. It's about half an hour to the city center by public transport.

Also, confusingly, the name "Melbourne" is used to refer both to the whole city, the city center only, and the local government area which includes the city center and some other bits. But mostly it means the whole lot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne

ME! ME! ME! (Duh.)

You'll be working? :O Where? And where does your friend live? If it turns out that it's easier for us to meet in the city, Tuesday is good for me, since I have classes in the city until late.

Hmm. Is it easy to get into the city from your place?

Very easy - tram about 20m from my door goes up St Kilda Rd and all the way through the city. :)

Then I guess we should meet up in the city, Fufu. :D Maybe at the Starbucks on the corner of Swanston and Bourke Streets? (That's right in the middle of the city, you can't really miss it.)

I can recommend any number of much much much better coffee places if you desire... :-)

I'll arm her with a map and some photos and things, don't worry :)

Fu: It's about a half hour trip where you get on the tram and then sit there until you get to where [personal profile] juin said and then get off. You can do it!

Yeah, but if it's a locally printed map, it's probably designed for people who don't know they're upside down, so the map itself has to compensate. Since you, OTOH, will know you're upside down, you need to hold it upside down as well (or rather, the way all locals will tell you is upside down) so it matches your surroundings. Does that make sense?

Mmkay. So that's the second Tuesday of May? Do you think you could get into the city by 5pm?
