Picture of my desktop (when I'm just relaxing for the night):

Main window is iTerm, which is currently running irssi (IRC application). I've set the background to be translucent because my screen is tiny, so there's not enough space to chat comfortably and to watch videos at the same time. It's not always YouTube in a browser; the video is often an episode or a movie played in VLC.

Irssi is split up into two sections: my current active window, and the hilights/PM window. Current active window is the main chat area. PM & Hilights split window lets me see any incoming private messages or highlighted messages so I can keep up with private conversations without needing to flip back and forth all the time (I don't redirect channel chatter there though; too noisy, and less urgent).

GeekTool is a nifty tool for monitoring whatever. I find the "Shell" option most useful (run a shell command and have its output auto-update in a window you can leave open and flip to whenever). That window is running netstat for kicks. It's practically invisible, so I can ignore it most of the time, and only look over when I need to/want to.

Note that there are a couple of other windows open, but these sections I highlighted are the ones I tend to focus on when I'm not really doing anything. When I'm coding, it's mostly a text editor open, and a browser or terminal window for reference (APIs, man pages).

Now that I've shown off my own slightly messy workspace, I'm sort of curious as to what yours are like!
