Meh, my real name has become linked to my LJ just as I enter the job market. I've managed to get the links taken down (thank you, both of you, for listening to my request so quickly *hugs*), but I'm still uncomfortable with the idea of my online life being mixed with my offline life.
I'm also too lazy to check to see which entries, if any, contain incriminating (read: embarrassing) evidence. Therefore, I'm going to change all my friends-only entries to private, and all my public entries to friends-only.
I really dislike having to do this, but it's about time I listen to my inner paranoiac.
Note to self:
Set up a friends-only banner/entry, or whatever it is other people do in these circumstances.

Date: 2007-03-12 09:35 am (UTC)But I'm contemplating making a friends-only banner as well, and friends-locking all my old entries except for a couple of memes.

Date: 2007-03-12 12:33 pm (UTC)I have done the locking. Now I only need to do the bannering! Posting the banner! Making the banner! Something like that.

Date: 2007-03-12 01:40 pm (UTC)I really should find time too.

Date: 2007-03-12 01:20 pm (UTC)I tink the `uman resource
manaer -- wat is tis word?person over at were I work knows about my LJ. I still am not over bein paranoid. :((no subject
Date: 2007-03-12 05:13 pm (UTC)manaer -- manager? At your old job or your new one? And oh :( I can't imagine what that's like. Would rather not imagine, as well. Just the idea that someone I don't know might possibly stumble upon my LJ from googling for my real name was enough to make me lock everything (and possibly, now, consider a name change, though I don't think it's that bad yet).no subject
Date: 2007-03-13 01:29 am (UTC)Must be! I was staring at the word, wondering what it was --- I was thinking "executive" when I was typing, and manaer looked nothing close to it. ^^; And it's at the new office, actually. (I think it's just me being paranoid --- I bet she knows about whatever there is you have on Friendster, and I have nothing there except an obligatory first post and that's it, but anyone knowing anything about my online life makes me go asdfdsgkldhgfk.)
Let's swap names. Then they'll never get to us. XD

Heh! I thought that you were asking me, er, as in testing/teasing to see if I could figure it out. Did not realize that you might not know it yourself *g*
(Ooh, I have no Friendster. Maybe I should make one, to throw people off track).
Yes, let's! Ahaha :) Would confuse everyone we know, but it would also confuse everyone we don't know.

Date: 2007-03-19 08:03 pm (UTC)Oh, and googling for your real name still points to your account -- I suppose Google remembers that there used to be links from the name to the journal. Maybe that link will disappear the next time Google does its big cache-updatey thing.
(And I surprised myself by remembering your last name. I was sure what your first name was but wasn't so sure about the last name.)
BTW, let's be friends?

Date: 2007-03-19 08:32 pm (UTC)However, I don't want to create a new account because I don't want to sacrifice the Permanent status (only time I've regretted buying the Permanent account).
(You surprised yourself by remembering my last name? You surprised me! I don't remember giving it to you (though I don't mind that you know *grin*)).
I hope that the firstname+lastname link disappears. In the meantime, at least the one that was firstname+unique-middlename+lastname one has gradually begun to vanish. I'm hoping that time, and a general lack of interest in linking to my journal, will gradually cover up the traces.
Friended! Hi friend!
PS. Expect a f-locked entry with a hand(tablet)-drawn attempt soon. Too lazy to break out the IME.

Date: 2007-03-19 08:52 pm (UTC)I don't specifically remember when you gave me your last name; probably around the time you told me your other name over IRC, whenever that was.

Date: 2007-03-21 03:52 pm (UTC)I don't know if you've ever told me yours, but I think I can guess ;)

Date: 2007-03-21 04:32 pm (UTC)Or Chinese name?

Date: 2007-03-21 04:40 pm (UTC)You have a Chinese name? (Also, speaking of which: http://afuna.livejournal.com/427593.html. Not that you won't eventually see that on your friendspage!)

Date: 2007-03-21 05:00 pm (UTC)Oh, oops :x
You have a Chinese name?
I had one given to me by a Chinese at school. So it's more of an honorary Chinese name, I suppose. But yes.
(I also have a Japanese name that my then-girlfriend gave me. I occasionally use the given name portion of my Chinese name as my Japanese name, though, just reading it with Japanese name values.)
My Chinese name is 陳信哲 Chèn Xínzhè, and my Japanese name is 篤義 (Atsuyoshi) or 信哲 (which I read Nobuaki).
Oh, I suppose I also have a Japanese family name: one of my Japanese teachers called me 新町 (Shinmachi), a literal translation of "Newton". Though I slightly prefer 新村 (Niimura), perhaps because I've actually seen people called that but haven't seen Shinmachi as a name.

Date: 2007-03-22 10:35 am (UTC)I know someone who made up his own Chinese name and chose either 天子 (Son of Heaven) or 皇帝 (Emperor). It was rather special.
I wonder what would happen if I tried the same trick? Taking the Japanese pronunciation of my Chinese name. (Just tried checking it out, but with so many pronunciations out there, I have no idea which combinations would actually sound acceptable as names).
I misread the "ton" part of "Newton" -- took it literally as "ton" (the measurement), and not as in "town", and I didn't really get my mistake until I took a closer look at the kanji you were using.

Date: 2007-03-22 10:49 am (UTC)Though it's true that most characters have "traditional" readings attached to them, even for names, and using different readings could be confusing.
Maybe "Teruyuki"?
Best to ask a Japanese, I suppose, what kind of name reading would sound plausible.
