Abby convinced me, and I have a Twitter... thing.

I think I like it. It basically lets me indulge in one-way whining in tiny bursts (words stolen from murklins :-)), without having to think too much.

I started in the afternoon by posting to it from GMail chat, but it seemed a bit awkward to have to switch to the browser all the time. Plus, the notifications wouldn't work. After I got home, I tried out Bitlbee on [livejournal.com profile] exor674's recommendation, and now I'm able to post from IRC (irssi, which I'm logged into via Ciaran's server all the time, anyway!)

What would make it perfect would be if I could post a digest of my Twitter stuff as a backdated entry on my LJ, but I'm running into problems with the Perl modules (reflected on the last few items of my feed hah). I wonder what XML::RSS::Tools does, and whether I can rewrite the twitter2lj.pl script to not use it? (My other alternative is to run it as a cron job from a web server, but it needs additional modules, and I'd have to ask first.)

I think muse often has a Twitter-based post, so she may know something about it.

Yeah, but loudtwitter is a third-party tool and requires you to give out either your LJ password or your mobile posting PIN.

:p

Password definitely not, but mobile posting pin I wouldn't be so worried about...

That's why I never post to LJ from Flickr either - it's so annoying!

yeah, mobile posting PIN isn't too bad, worst they can do is end up spamming your journal with 10127893287234 entries via email until you notice and change it.

But still, aren't most of us coding geeks of some flavour or another? Why use a third-party tool when you can write/edit your own?!

(And hey, using that script forced me to actually "learn" perl which I'd been putting off for ages since I had no project for it and had specific changes I wanted to make.)

:D

True :) If I used flickr more I probably would but I've never really got into it for some reason.

I had some problems installing some modules too - but repeated crunching at it seemed to solve it.

Also, do you just mean flagging the DOOO so it doesn't appear on your flist/feed? Should be doable with some extra coding, it's in the LJ module.

Also, for your bookmarking reminder regarding installing modules without root: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/CPAN

And something else I've forgotten.
