Yup. It's a gift certificate, since you can't add paid time to a permanent account (technically I suppose you could, but it would be useless :))

Well, I wasn't explicitly told, but there was a (members-only) entry in [livejournal.com profile] lj_translate mentioning the paid account fairy posted around the time that the email arrived.

So by elimination ("it's unlikely to be for support, and there's this entry in lj_translate, and I'm the head of the Greek translation team...") I figured that was the source.
