I have a cool grandpa!!!

I love my grandpa <3 He's a bit of a gadget geek. Up to now he's focused on cameras and phones, but today he got his first computer. He saw Dad's iMac in my room when he visited during our last family reunion, grew envious, and decided to get one of his own.

My brother took care of buying a 20-inch iMac (gorgeoussss) and setting it up. Right now, grandpa's reading Chinese news on it. HE CAN READ NEWS WITHOUT HUNCHING OVER A NEWSPAPER WITH A MAGNIFYING GLASS GUYS THIS ROCKS.

Okay, so he might have turned his computer into the world's most expensive magnifying glass *laugh* But he rocks and is pretty cool at it. There are a few other things I know he's interested in, and I might be able to show him them once he gets used enough to using a computer to do something other than reading.

PS. Guys, translating geek to English for my parents is hard enough; geek to Chinese for my grandpa is so much harder!

PPS. Would just like to tell you guys that rb is sweet and gorgeous, and that she linked me to her series of simple accessibility hints on ATMac and it is amazing!

Eh. Your Grandpa sounds cool :)
He reminds me a bit of mine :) Though his own foray into computers wasn't a successful one but I blame the blight of a "simple" PC for old people my father and uncles set him up with- gah!

PS. Guys, translating geek to English for my parents is hard enough; geek to Chinese for my grandpa is so much harder!
I think translating geek to family is (most of the time) the hardest translating task there is. Might be a hidden rule of the Universe or something ;)

AKA, never ever volunteer to do tech support for your family? *grins*

Yeah *grins* except I'm not sure the volunteer part is actually accurate. I don't know about yours but in mine, I'm often volunteered for various (and wildly different) tech support task, even some outside the scope of my know how. :)

There might be a corollary stating that difficulty of tech support increases with the degree of closeness between you and the person you're helping.
With factors of age thrown in for good measure.

That makes me smile that your Grandpa can read better on the computer. Due to an old injury, I also have trouble seeing, and the computer is a godsend. :)

He knows a bit of English, but he actually knows more Tagalog than English because he spends quite a bit of his spare time watching Tagalog movies XD
