Hotel wifi was ridiculously expensive (I think each day cost about as much as a month's worth of internet back home?), but I did find the less expensive alternative of a prepaid card. Which still costs money, just... not as much.

I am slightly weirded out that I had to provide a xerox copy of my passport and visa before I could buy the prepaid card. Makes me nervous about what I say online, except over IRC (which I access via ssh)

Lalalalalala nothing to see here moving on

Yeah, there's a truckstop where I used to go for "higher bandwidth needed" reasons where it cost for a day what 4 (I think) days of my current connection would cost. Which is crankymakings.

RE: Passport/visa needed: That is... really weird.

*hugs* Come visit me... I'll let you use my wifi REALLY cheap!

An increasing number of countries want all SIMs to be registered. I guess wifi access isn't so different... :-/

O, hotel wifi, grrrrrrrrr. I am so chuffed when I can stick two fingers up to their excessive charges either by using my dongle or turning my smartphone into a hotspot.

And the "free wifi" isn't any better. I ended up just turning the wifi off entirely and using my phone because the packet loss was way better. :(
