Dropped by the bookstore to pick up some things for my mom. I came face-to-face with a copy of TC7 Leithold (which is not the proper name for that calculus book but it is what I shall always know it by).

I... wow I was so tempted to buy it and give calculus another try. Six hundred pesos seems like a lot as a student, but it's a sum I can afford easily now that I'm working. (Now time, that's the problem!)

In the 30+ years since I got my BA in Math, I can't recall a single instance of ever being asked to determine how long it would take to empty a bathtub, nor being asked to differentiate an equation on the fly.

Your time would be better spent learning more practical subjects.

I don't remember being asked either, but I recall wanting to a number of times. YMMV.

Also, I'm curious, and I didn't notice it at first. BA, not BS?

Yes; as I recall, the BS degree required some additional courses and I was not quite the highly motivated individual I am today (what? it's true) when I was in college.

Actually, reviewing the requirements (here) reminds me that I needed a minor in Physics to get the BS, and I barely survived the introductory Physics curriculum. Thus, I elected to pursue more electives and get the BA.

Hey, what do you have against learning for the sake of learning! Math is *COOL*.

yeah, right.

You're still young. At my age, I need to save brain cells for important tasks.

The time-versus-money conundrum is one that every ex-student faces, I think.

*sneaks in to tug on your sleeve looking pitiful* Style patching. What am I doing wrong? I've made the new .s2 files in bin/upgrading/s2layers, I've updated s2layers.dat with parent layer info, I've made the new .pm file in cgi-bin/LJ/S2themes and updated s2Themes.pm with the new layout>basetheme pair. I even put the style images in the stc folder. But nothing is showing up on my dreamhack when I go to Select Style. I cleared the cache and uploaded everything twice to make sure, but no new style. *wibbles*

I shall try that, thanks!
