Which seems to say that I need to tell them when I want these things to be sent, possibly in this section?

I have nothing useful to contribute to the translation; I'm just amused at their use of backslashes. Hysterical raisins, hooray!

I wonder if it's an encoding thing, actually! My IME lets me choose between outputting "\" as a backslash or as a yen sign.

I think I'd say that it was an encoding thing -- JIS Roman (I forget the technical term for the character set) was pretty much like ASCII except that it had a Yen in position 92, where ASCII had a backslash.

(Since this was what Japanese PCs used, this also meant that Japanese people got used to seeing Yen signs in their DOS filenames. Just like, or so I'm told, Norwegian and Danish programmers get used to seeing "æø", or something like that, in array declarations, since their local variety of ISO 646 used those characters instead of square brackets, and the upper-case versions instead of curly brackets.)

Nowadays, we have UTF-8, which has separate code points for "backslash" and "Yen sign", but since there used to be times when only the one or the other could appear (since they shared a code point), they seem to have become slightly interchangeable in Japanese computing.

The word "wait" is in there.. so I was kinda right, without being right in the slightest :)

I think your first one was righter than Google's auto-translation, actually! I've heard from friends that it basically means they're asking me to wait while they calculate postage costs -- I got an email about a day after I posted this, which proves that interpretation absolutely correct *g*

Oooh, okay. So I kept reading it wrong, thinking that they were saying that they would wait, though now that I'm reading it again, お待ちください does seem to make it pretty clear that they're asking me to do the waiting!


Hmm, what's wrong with that one? I did the transaction through rakuten as it seemed they had appropriate infrastructure in place. Do you know of anything otherwise?

haven't done shopping through rakuten so I can't say for sure, but most companies have their own credit cards, and they'd want you to use that. I'm pretty sure they'd accept yours anyway, I'm just being too japanese-compliant. sorry. :/
