So far, the first 20 chapters of Katekyou Hitman Reborn have been pure crack. Almost like one long series of omake...

Does this series ever pick up an arc, or is it just one-shot gag after one-shot gag?

(Is it safe to assume that there's plenty of Yamamoto/Gokudera? *g*)

Okay, short intro: The first 60 chapters is pure gag. Underwear shenanigans and nothing else. You can, having been introduced to the characters, freely skip to 60 if you like and miss absolutely nothing. The gag chapters, of their nature, have nothing in the way of character development.

At chapter 60, very abruptly, the gags almost disappear and it turns into an action manga, very tightly paced and rather dark in places. That's where the character development kicks in.

After the first two and a half arcs of action, the pacing wobbles and the gags resurface; I am fairly well convinced that this is because Amano is under some kind of editorial pressure to extend that third arc and she was pushed off her stride. I pray weekly that she hits it again, because when she's on, she's /on/.

I actually didn't ping on Yamamoto/Gokudera until the end of the second, start of the third action section, when their /interactions/ finally start to mature. *grins* After that, of course, I had to try it just to see if it could be done and I was sold.

I like Gokudera/Tsuna more than Yamamoto/Gokudera. Then again, a fair case can be made for anybody-including-all-of-the-enemies/Tsuna, so.

No, really not. He's the kind of weak (but stupidly strong), goody-goody main character that I hate the most, but Gokudera/Tsuna has that servant/master dynamic that I really like. And I guess I'm not really interested in Yamamoto as a character.
