We've been hit hard by Typhoon Ondy. It has been raining hard, nonstop, since yesterday. Streets are all flooded, and earlier when the net was still up in the house, I was seeing reports on Twitter about houses flooding or nearly so. As far as I know, Pasig River has overflowed its banks and the street outside my old university is flooded knee-height? chest height? Something like that? I boggling because that area is not particularly flood prone.

Meralco ( power company ) has shut down power to our house until the rains stop, which makes me wonder just how bad it is. I do not remember the last time they did this ― I am pretty sure the last time they shut off power for safety was because of winds and not floods. Winds are not too strong, btw, which is a blessing :) at least there are not random things flying around which could injure those who brave the streets. Not that they could go far! I know; I tried earlier.

I was trying to head to Rosario which I heard has yarn bodegas which sell a great variety of yarn and cheap - the other place I know of, Dreams in Glorietta, is pretty far and also more expensive. I was (and am still) hoping to be able to get softer stuff. The Red Heart acrylic yarn which is the only knitting yarn I can find in craft stores is okay but I have found it chafes a bit where I wind it around my finger so I have to be careful. I want to see if the same happens with something softer ( I really hope not )

Anyway so I as out earlier before lunch and everything is waterlogged, most streets are at least an inch deep in water, many of them are at least ankle deep and it felt like every other street you could see the street kids swimming in the waist- and chest- deep areas. We did not even reach halfway to our destination before we decided it was not worth it! Especially since Rosario was in one of the lower-lyng areas of the city. On the way back was much harder. Streets we had been able to pass through on the way out were now impassable (streets should not make you think of an unbroken sea :p)

I am right now safe at home, relaxing and doing stuff which does not need too much light or electricity ( knitting is good, opening my laptop is bad). The sound of the rain is pretty soothing. I have cracked open a window and am enjoying the cool wind, and yeah.

Posting from my phone, but I should go offline now to conserve battery *g*. Will be back later or tomorrow!

ps now is the perfect time to have learned to knit. Heeheehee

Red Heart will chafe like that, yes. Try a little lotion on the affected fingers.
