Four hours of trying, and I still haven't managed to do a complete row *rueful* I can follow the videos on knittinghelp.com up to casting on, but the first transition from the cast on to the knit stitch still eludes me (so everything after that is a mess).

Oh, but casting on, I like casting on *grin* Though I did flub it up initially, and managed to get a weird double-braid caterpillar-like thingy:

wrongly cast on yarn, appearing as a flat braid

Apparently the craft stores in the mall don't have good yarn; all acrylic and cheap/rough-looking. I got a couple of hanks, just because I had no other choice, but I don't like it. Am considering hopping onto a jeepney and hunting down the bodega in Rosario (found through google; but not sure when I'll be able to go)

There's a stash of decent quality yarn somewhere in the house, actually. But I'm hesitant to touch it because it's not mine. I want to try to hunt down something of my own :)

ETA: Ahaaaaaaaaaaaa my cast on was still wrong! No wonder I couldn't get started at all :-D :-D :-D

ETA2: OMG It works now. I can knit. UMmmmmmmmm. Now I don't want to sleep *_*

Look for yarns from Turkey - they usually make really good yarns that they are apparently famous for.

The next time I have family in law members go out of country to visit Turkey, I can put in some word for them to bring back yarn if you would like :)

Also, you have a good start!
