If a major submarine backbone is damaged, reducing much of Asia's internet capacity by 75%, and there is nobody online to listen because we're all busy taking hammers to our computers in frustration...

eh, I dunno!

Expect me to be scarce until this is fixed (hopefully that won't be more than a day or so). In the meantime, I'm off to curl up with a good book :)

Not sure; I think a cable is cut or was otherwise damaged. We've had crappy connection the whole day (and no idea when it will end hehe)

Yes! Actually, I was reading up on it a bit earlier, and the redundancy did kick in, in that we still had an internet connection (albeit at much reduced capacities).

Man, I've been spoiled by normal cable speeds, though. The intermittent slowdown was almost worse than no internet at all.

It looks like it's mostly Singapore and the Philippines. Possibly Hong Kong as well?

It still amazes me that the level of technology we're in these days, but at the same time, we're still using cables, and underwater to be exact!
