CROCHET maybe

Dropped by the LYS today, and managed to catch the owner which is a rare treat :D

I have been vaguely interested in crochet, but the last time I tried, I felt like I was fighting the hook and the yarn. She gave me a couple pointers, and I've signed up for a session with her so I can unlearn my old bad habits and get started on things properly.

I am excited! This is going to be *awesome*. (I hope)


This evening, I'm going to go through Ravelry and try to find a good beginner pattern. I'll also pick out yarn that I want to use up :D :D :D


I'm also biting the bullet and getting a flickr account so I can easily upload pics from my phone. (I'm too lazy to upload pics, even when I want to share them with friends, so maybe this is a step in the right direction? THOUGH given the whole yahoo shutting down their services thing, maybe flickr is not the best photo sharing site to go to!)

Most of it is probably going to be knitting/crochet related >_> Sadly, "afuna" was not available, and it doesn't appear to be my account -- I can't see any pics, so I can't confirm whether it's an old abandoned account of mine.

Oooooh! I'm utterly amazed at how versatile crochet and knitting are!

(I tried to pick up crochet the other week (off of youtube) because I saw some Pokemon amigurimi I'd loe to do... but then I discovered the needle I found in my mum's knitting bag is waaay too small for amigurimi so I gave up.)

I heard Picasa breaks links after awhile, if you're using it for pics in your journal ... did they fix that?

I seem to remember trying to use Picasa for LJ pics a while back but not being able to for some reason, and switching to Flickr instead.

In the realm of helpful comments about crochet, LilyGo's crochet patterns are some of the most beautiful things I've ever seen come off a hook.

*wheeze* I was completely unprepared for Bearghan. Completely and utterly. It's so bad it's almost made the turn right back into AWESOME!

And oooh thank you -- I have been having a hard time finding crochet patterns that are exactly my taste, and these fit the bill quite nicely :D

I read Lily's blog, and her crochet work continues to amaze me. She's also got two of the cutest little girls on the internet!

This wristlet is both simple and quick, and, I think, pretty forgiving. The only tricky bit is the magic loop that starts it, but your LYS owner should be able to help with that.

Ooh, thank you! I am stockpiling bag patterns to practice with (being both forgiving in gauge and faster to work up than scarves), and this looks like a good one to do.

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye fixed on Yahoo, but they did just roll out Windows 7/Win7Mobile improvements for Flickr, so I'm ... less cynical about their being around for long enough? Enough that I reupped to Pro so that I could restore access to all my pictures and figure out a backup.

About Yahoo's other storied property, I am in a blind denial panic (almost three months later, nobody's making noises about buying, the various sunsetted properties are having their end-dates announced), and I should address that by writing out why the existing replacements are not working for me and what I want out of a replacement.

Flickr was a viable website/company before Yahoo bought them. I'm hoping, given that information, that Yahoo can spin Flickr off for cash instead of shutting down. Not to mention Flickr's loyal customer base...

Yahoo bought the startup that I write for ... I don't know what's going to happen to them, I think they just wanted to get us writers for cheap. >.>

Hmmm...if your LYS owner is the same LYS owner I know, you will learn a whole lot about crochet and knitting and cross-stitch before very long. *cheers*

I learned my crochet in fifth grade, and still have the ancient pattern book we were required to buy. Cross-stitch and knitting, self-taught, but there's always room for improvement, of course!

Waah, I wish I could knit in the dark. It would be so so soothing!
