There was a story a while back of a woman who tripped and fell on a knitting needle which stabbed her through the heart. She recognised what had happened, didn't remove the needle, got herself to the hospital, and survived. Unfortunately the news article everyone links to is no longer on the web, so I can't link it :(
Do I have to pull out the fencing masks every time y'all start knitting? Because I'd do that. It would be blackmailworthy and hilarious a signficant safety improvement.
That could backfire! Fencing masks means that you can't PROVE it's me behind the mask! *cackle*
Though I think the riskiest times are when you are not knitting, but have a knitting needle in the area somewhere, because that's when you're not aware of the needle position in relation to yourself.
