Yarn over!
I was doing yarnover wrong!
So... yarnover is basically adding an additional loop (which will end up making a hole for decorative purposes) before making another stitch. I thought that yarnover was adding another loop and then making another stitch to anchor the new loop.
So, when the pattern called for (yo, k1), I ended up doing (yo, k1, k1), which threw me off the count completely.
(This post probably won't make sense to you unless you knit *g*)
(Thank you
synecdochic and
hobbitblue for providing suggestions to make the pattern line up, until I got my EUREKA\o/ moment.)
