If going to Ben's would take you too much out of your way, just ask the people wherever you're staying where to go. "Hey, my friend used to live in NYC and told me to make sure I got good pizza while I was here -- where's your favorite nearby slice shop?"

(I advise going for cheese or pepperoni. Sometimes there are more complex pies sitting there waiting to be sold, but cheese and pepperoni both turn over so quickly that the pie they'll take your slice from will have probably been made a few minutes ago.)

Meanwhile, if you get overwhelmed by the city and need a bit of breathing room, take the A train up to 190th st and walk through the park to get to the Cloisters. That place got me through some very rough times! And it's the time of year when the gardens will be beautiful.

You pretty much can't go wrong with picking a direction and walking in it until you find something interesting. Enjoy. :)
