And then I went back and rechecked my units of measurement to see what was wrong with the dl and ul.

Hee I know right? I blinked when I saw the speed test and double-checked the conversion in my head a couple times to make sure I got it right.

I think it would be acceptable were I back on dial-up, or even edge. But from home and for work it's pretty painful ;_;

9600 bits per second? I thought even the oldest modems were at 14.4kbps?

Nope. Oldest I had hands-on experience with was 300 bits per second, in the mid-70s.

If it ever changes, I'll tell you, but we only get edge / gprs in my home! (But I went boxing and when I came back the speeds were tolerable :D TAKE THAT)
